Employee Spotlight: Julie Jasewicz

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on one of our consultants, Julie Jasewicz! Julie is originally from Dolgeville, New York in the Adirondack Mountains, and she received her master’s degree in industrial-organizational psychology at George Mason University. She is also a regular attender of the SIOP (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology) annual conference and is looking forward to returning in April. Most FMPers probably know at this point that I have a cat named Winter who is the love of my life. I care very deeply about animals. My most recent hobby has been attending animal yoga events out of Arlington. Beth Wolfe, a certified yoga instructor, teams up with local animal shelters to host events to help raise money for the care of the animals and socialize them so they are ready for adoption.

Something people might not know about me is that I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan, and that passion led to my career in psychology. Growing up, I thought J.R.R. Tolkien was one of the most brilliant individuals who has ever lived, and I wanted to study where he did. I attended a pre-college program at Christ Church, University of Oxford where I studied leadership. That experience led to me pursuing a career in industrial-organizational psychology.

As an intern, I worked on USDA Forest Service, FEMA, and the National Library of Medicine (NLM). When I switched to working full-time, I joined the National Science Foundation (NSF) contract, and I work with their learning and development team.

Curious, hardworking, creative.

Last year, I attended SIOP in Chicago for the first time and had the opportunity to speak on a panel with fellow FMPer Caitlin Briggs about our experiences with I-O internships. My favorite presentation that I attended at last year’s conference was given by Nancy Doyle (the founder of Genius Within) on supporting neurodiversity at work.

My first experience working in I-O psychology was at my undergraduate research lab at UAlbany, and I have remained close with that team. Most of those folks are scattered across the US now, and SIOP is a unique opportunity where, once a year, we get to see each other again.
