Challenge

USCIS needed assistance providing executive program management; adopting Agile project management practices; and maturing coordination, operational readiness, and post-production services for information technology (IT) systems.

Solution

FMP trained the USCIS Project Management Office (PMO) on Agile and Kanban project management methodologies, tools, and processes. FMP facilitated an “Agile Council”, assisting in the adjustment and prioritization of initiatives based on lessons learned and open capacity from previous quarters. Within this council, FMP established project-level governance, including identification and confirmation of group members, roles, and responsibilities, driving a shared understanding of accountability and maturing coordination between teams. FMP also helped create and maintain project management artifacts to drive commonality in project management practices and promote sound project management principles.

Results

With the help of FMP, USCIS successfully adopted an extensive Agile framework in their project management practices, matured their coordination and operational readiness between teams, and developed more consistent project management practices throughout the PMO.
